We are pleased to let you know our servers are back online

In the last 24 hours (11 AM of 26/06/2023 to 11 AM of 27/06/2023) we faced the darkest and longest duration of server attack we have ever faced since we started serving you. Our entire team hasn't had sleep during this period, attending to WhatsApp messages on the queue and email support tickets while the technical team collaborates with CPanel, WordPress, and our infrastructure management team in the UK to bring back all services to live.

We are sorry we had an attack on our UK infrastructure which caused our servers to go into panic mode.

Our team has currently restored operations, within 2 hours of dawn this morning GMT+1 WAT.

We had anticipated a solution in under 5 minutes after the incident, however, we realized it was more critical than we thought. It wasn't our usual maintenance routine.

Once more we are sorry for this setback. We were able to reach out to most of you during this period.

While we cannot bore you with the details, we have so far identified that most WordPress sites brought in the attacks due to a vulnerability recently identified and reported with WordPress, and attackers seem to have found a way to use that weakness in CPanel services.

We recommend installing WordPress Toolkit on your CPanel to identify plugins that are the culprit to this and follow this CPanel block on how to harden your WordPress security https://blog.cpanel.com/wordpress-hardening-one-click-security-with-cpanel/ as this affects other users on our shared hosting services.

Since there have been minor outages due to WordPress loopholes this year especially when you install plugins from untrusted sources, please take a look at this documentation to help us cope with flaws that come with such tools https://nicolaslule.com/wordpress-security-checklist/.

Service Notice - October 2018 Server Upgrades

Migration Update - PLEASE READ IN FULL

Esteem clients, we wish to let you know our hosting server upgrades are now completed. All services are back to normal.

We are pleased to inform that, whilst the migration was far slower than expected, it has now completed successfully.

You will have already noticed an increase in performance - we have seen some incredible improvements to the central USA with benchmarks for standard WordPress installs of around 0.3 seconds.

The DNS records on our nameservers have already been updated to point to the new server.

The following changes have been made

Change in data center location

Data Center: New York -> Chicago

The server was hosted on public-cloud infrastructure in New York, however, we have taken it to our own hypervisor/infrastructure in Chicago.

The server itself is now on RAID10 SSD storage media, therefore read/write performance has increased. We also have allocated a significant amount of resources to the server (as a permanent change) to ensure site performance is boosted. The resources are at the very least doubled...

CPU Upgrade: 6 Cores -> 12 Cores

RAM Upgrade: 16GB -> 32GB RAM

This upgrade took place from midnight NY time. Downtime was kept to a minimum, but if any, the total was no longer than 60 minutes or so.
